Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, the leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force, landed in Beirut this Tuesday. According to Lebanon’s Nidaa al-Watan newspaper, this isn’t his first visit since the Gaza war erupted.
The timing is noteworthy, as it precedes a significant speech by Hezbollah’s chief, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
Adding to the intrigue, Qaani’s visit coincides with the arrival of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, and French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu.
