Hezbollah has filed a lawsuit against Bahaa Hariri, the older brother of Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and son of the late Rafik Hariri, reported Hezbollah-affiliated news agency Al-Manar.
This is the latest in a series of slander lawsuits filed by the party against those who have alleged the Shiite militant group was responsible for the Beirut Port explosion.
Hezbollah has also pressed charges against former independent parliamentarian Fares Souaid and the website of the Lebanese Forces party for claiming the party is the reason behind the disaster.
For the past four months, investigations into the port blast have still not yielded results to conclude who or what is responsible for the explosion.
The blast was caused by the detonation of nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate, which appeared to have randomly arrived at Beirut’s port and poorly stored there for six years.
Many have accused Hezbollah of storing the explosive material at the port, claiming that it had an arms depot at the location.
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Aoun asserted that his ally Hezbollah had no arms depot at the port and that its involvement in the explosion was “impossible.”
Known for speaking out against Hezbollah, the elder Hariri sibling recently called on Lebanon to declare Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
