Heritage Building In Lebanon Just Got Demolished Without Permission

Abbass Mortada l Beirut News Agency

Lebanese Minister of Culture and Agriculture, Abbass Mortada, announced in a tweet that: “…a person took advantage of the holiday to demolish a heritage building in the Achrafiyeh area, known as the Mandaloun Berjawi Restaurant, without any administrative permission.”

The Minister continues: “Based on this information, I commissioned authorities to undertake all procedures along with the Governor of Beirut to stop the demolition process and prosecute the violators.”

Even though authorities stopped the work on demolishing this historic building, the damage is already done, unfortunately.

Noting that Al-Mandaloun Berjawi Restaurant has been sitting there in the heart of Achrafiyeh for many years, in what was once called the Berjawi neighborhood.

The restaurant was considered one of the area’s oldest buildings.
