The American mediator Amos Hochstein visited Israel to meet Israeli PM Yair Lapid right after leaving Beirut on Monday.
Hochstein’s unannounced visit to Israel followed an “optimistic” meeting in Baabda with President Michel Aoun, PM Najib Mikati, and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, over the maritime border demarcation files with Israel.
That was the first meeting joining together the three main top officials of Lebanon with the American mediator. Hochstein said after the meeting that he was optimistic and noted that progress has been made and the final agreement will be reached on his next visit to Beirut.
Hochstein had arrived in Beirut Sunday to push talks into the maritime border negotiations between Lebanon and Israel that had escalated in early June.
