In 2020, the Minister of Telecommunications, Talal Hawat, disclosed plans to transition the local code from “0” to “2” for landline telephone lines on the IMS network, indicating an imminent implementation.
Recently, Ogero affirmed this change, specifying that IMS network users will now dial “21” instead of “01” for local calls and “009612” for international calls.
This alteration replaces codes like 01, 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08 with 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28, respectively.
The reprogramming process involves substituting the “0” code with “2” while preserving the current numbering system logic.
However, some callers were recently taken by surprise when attempting to make calls and discovering this unexpected change.
Despite being decided upon four years ago, the implementation occurred without prior announcement, leading to confusion among users.
The migration of registered lines to the IMS network is expected to take place gradually, the Telecommunications Ministry announced back then.
