An Israeli military spokesperson claimed on Saturday that Israeli forces had thwarted an attempt to smuggle arms from southern Lebanon.

Avichay Adraee, head of the Israeli military’s Arab Media Division, said in a tweet on Saturday afternoon that 43 weapons had been seized near the border with Lebanon.

The weapons were seized in the Lebanese village of Ghajar after Israeli forces had spotted suspects transporting bags from Lebanon into Occupied Territories on Friday night, Adraee said.

The smuggling attempt is “one of the largest in years,” according to Adraee’s statement.

“The IDF is examining the possibility of Hezbollah providing support for the smuggling attempt and, in cooperation with the police, is investigating the identity of those involved in it,” the spokesperson added.

Last week, the Israeli military said that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle $92,000 worth of drugs along the border with Lebanon, around two weeks after announcing the foiling of a previous arms-smuggling attempt at the border.
