An Israeli Gas Extracting Ship Entered The Disputed Maritime Area With Lebanon

Al Modon

On Sunday, the Energean Power ship entered the Karish field and crossed Line 29, and up to 5 km from Line 23, in the disputed area in Lebanon.

The arrival of this ship means that they are months and perhaps weeks away from the start of gas extraction from a field shared between Lebanon and Israel.

Accordingly, the Lebanese authorities must amend Decree 6433 and send it to the United Nations, and notify the Greek company that the area in which the ship is located, is a disputed area.

Lebanon firmly intends to protect its rights by diplomatic means, otherwise, there will be a military confrontation with Israel.

President Michel Aoun discussed with Prime Minister Najib Mikati this morning the steps that must be taken.

They Agreed to invite the American Mediator, Amos Hochstein, to come to Beirut to discuss the issue of completing the negotiations to demarcate the southern maritime borders and work to end them as soon as possible, in order to prevent any escalation that would not serve the stability in the region.

They also stressed that any action or activity in the disputed area constitutes a provocation and a hostile act, and obstructs negotiations on US- mediated maritime borders under the auspices of the United Nations.
