Italy Just Donated $1.2 Million Help Vulnerable Children In Lebanon

To promote food security in Lebanon, the Italian Cooperation donated €1 million ($1.2 million) to secure meals for children and vulnerable people.

The donation was made to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) that will provide monthly assistance in the form of food parcels for nearly 133,000 vulnerable people.

Food parcels for families had replaced WFP’s “school meal program” that was providing daily in-school snacks and meals for children to help low-income families limit their expenses.

As schools are closed due to the pandemic, WFP consulted with the Ministry of Education and decided to adjust its “school meal program” to providing food parcels for families and fight the increasing food vulnerability prevalent across the country.

Speaking about the donation, Italy’s Ambassador to Lebanon Nicoletta Bombardiere said, “Italy is committed to continue supporting the Lebanese population, and considers the provision of basic rights, among which education and food security, as top priorities of its efforts in the country.”
