Meet Jana Sader, Lebanese contestant at Miss Universe 2017

Perla Helou was crowned Miss Lebanon 2017

. The first runner-up, Jana Sader, was a contestant in Miss Universe 2017. The 66th edition of Miss Universe took place in Las Vegas on November 26. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa won the crown. Georgina Rizk, who is Miss Lebanon for the year 1971, is the only Lebanese who won the title of Miss Universe. Nouhad El Cabbabe was among the top 15 in 1962, and Marcèlle Herro was among the top 12 in 1973.

Jana Sader, a native of Sidon, is a 20-year-old student majoring in law. According to


, she aspires to be a human rights lawyer. In her spare time, she gives back to her community by helping the elderly. In the national costume show, she proudly wore a dress which is inspired by Sabah’s fashion style. In fact, November 10 would have marked the 90th birthday of the late legendary Lebanese singer and actress


. Wearing a costume inspired by the Lebanese icon is a beautiful way to pay homage to her. The national gift that she presented to the city of Las Vegas is a cutlery set from the Haddad family. The handicrafts have the shapes of phoenixes. The Phoenix is the symbol of Beirut which got destroyed and rebuilt seven times. Also, they are stamped with the Lebanese Cedar Tree; the national symbol of Lebanon. Even though she did not win, Jana made all of us very proud. She showed her patriotism, embraced her culture, and proved how proud she is to be Lebanese.
