A video is going viral on social media showing a large number of jellyfish storming the coast of Jounieh bay, which caused a sense of panic among the locals, as they wait for the summer season to enjoy the beaches.
According to Annahar, the Director of the National Center for Marine Sciences, Milad Fakhri, considered that what is happening is very normal and happens annually during this season.
He added that the large numbers of jellyfish come with the water currents arriving from the Red Sea through the Suez Canal in Egypt, and they remain on the Lebanese shores until about mid-August.
Fakhri also pointed out that this type of jellyfish is the same that comes to Lebanon yearly, commenting that “the symptoms of its sting are the same, and therefore there is no new danger and there is no need for panic.”
