Judge Ghada Aoun Judicial Council Meeting

On Thursday, Mount Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun was summoned to appear before State Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat on Monday, November 14, 2022.

According to the state-run National News Agency (NNA), Judge Aoun was summoned for interrogation over a libel and defamation complaint filed by Lebanon’s parliament speaker Nabih Berri and his wife Randa.

On Wednesday, Judge Aoun tweeted, citing WikiLeaks as a source, a list of names of Lebanese officials, including Berri and PM Mikati, who have allegedly frozen bank accounts in Switzerland.

She stated in her tweet that the accounts are frozen by instructions of the US Administration and these officials can’t withdraw even “one dollar” from their account.

Her list cited PM Najib Mikati with $7.8 billion. Nabih Berri’s name came 4th with $6.4 billion, in addition to his wife Randa Berri, with $5.7 billion, and his son Abdallah Berri with $2 billion.

Judge Aoun noted at the end, “Unfortunately, this is Lebanon and these are its leaders.” She then went on and deleted the tweet but not before it was widely shared, triggering a legal complaint for defamation and labeling by Berri and his wife against her.
