The Prime Minister in the caretaker government Najib Mikati visited President Michel Aoun, today, Thursday, to continue talks on the government formation file.
Mikati’s visit to Baabda didn’t last more than 30 minutes. “The meeting lasted for half an hour, the next time it will last longer,” he went on to say, “I will sleep here (Baabda palace) in order to form a government.”
President Michel Aoun has stressed earlier “the need to exert every effort to form a new government.”
In a meeting with a delegation from the Economic Committees, Aoun offered the alternative that would be to “bolster the current government with six new state ministers who would be politicians.”
“This was proposed by Mikati in the beginning, in light of the absence of politicians in the current government, but then the stance changed,” Aoun commented.
Aoun hoped that the achievement of the demarcation of the southern maritime border and the extraction of gas from Lebanon’s territorial waters would take Lebanon into a phase of promising hope.
