With the gas deals reportedly postponed until after President Michel Aoun’s term and Israeli elections, talks between deputy speaker Elias Bou Saab and the President are “going in the right direction.”
September will be decisive, Bou Saab stated, if it turns out that the Israelis are stubborn and do not want a solution, Lebanon will have other choices.
The American mediator in this file, Amos Hochstein has arrived in Lebanon through the Al-Naqoura border point, coming from Israel.
Hochstein confirmed after meeting with President Aoun at Baabda Palace that “the meeting was excellent, with the hope that further progress will be made in these negotiations.”
“There is remarkable progress in the negotiations, and I am optimistic about reaching an agreement, and I will complete the tour with the officials,” he stated.
Hochstein’s visit is not to reach a final agreement, but to reassure Lebanon that the atmosphere is positive and that the demarcation is after the Lebanese presidential elections and the Israeli elections.
