The latest meeting between Gebran Bassil, the chief of the Free Patriotic Movement, and Walid Jumblat, the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, was reported to be “different than all the previous meetings and was not negative at all, contrary to all leaks,” according to ad-Diyar newspaper.
The two leaders reportedly discussed the possibility of finding a unifying figure to serve as president.
This person would be able to “talk to all political parties and that would be acceptable to everyone,” according to the newspaper.
LBCI TV chairman Pierre Daher may fit this criteria, and Bassil and Jumblat may support his presidential nomination with the support of Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi according to the daily.
They also noted that MP Wael Abu Faour of the PSP informed Speaker Nabih Berri of the positive atmosphere of the meeting, which was also conveyed to Haret Hreik – referring to FPM ally, Hezbollah.
