Isaac Arazi, the former leader of Lebanon’s Jewish Community Council, has passed away at the age of 80. His family and the community’s lawyer, Bassem el-Hout, confirmed his death, noting that Arazi was laid to rest on Tuesday.
Arazi’s leadership was marked by a significant effort towards the restoration of Beirut’s Magen Abraham synagogue, a vital symbol of Jewish history.
The Lebanese Jewish community, once numbering around 22,000 before the civil war (1975-1990), has now dwindled to approximately 30.
