The beloved Lebanese actor, producer, and theater and film director Chawki Matta passed away on Monday at the age of 74 after struggling with illness.
Chawki Matta worked between Egypt and Lebanon in numerous films, especially during the Lebanese Civil War, creating over 35 films, 6 plays, and 10 television series.
Among his famous works are The Return of the Hero (1983), The Age of the Harem (2008), and The Last Passage (1982).
Lebanon’s Caretaker Culture Minister, Mohammad Mortada, expressed his deep regret for the passing of Matta via his Twitter account:
“You took the hard decision and went back to the scenes of life. The Hero’s Return from his lavish victories. The screens and the theater witness your journey of creative struggle you used to go through to raise your name in artistic culture.”
