The Lebanese Army announced on Monday that they have arrested 18 individuals linked to ISIS, including Lebanese and Syrian nationals.
The army issued, in a statement, that the arrests were part of a two-week operation in the Lebanese northern-border town of Arsal.
“Upon interrogation, the individuals arrested confessed to belonging to the Islamic State jihadist group and supporting it, and several weapons were also confiscated,” the statement said.
The army also noted that the group pledged allegiance to the militant group, and had intentions to carry out terrorist acts, which prompted the army to seize their weapons and ammunition.
Investigations are underway, with the 18 ISIS members under the supervision of the judiciary.
In 2017, Arsal was a ground for fighters in the Syrian civil war, including ISIS militants and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, formerly identified as the Nusra Front.
The two militia groups previously launched multiple deadly attacks, including bombings in Beirut and other areas.
