Illegal emigration has become a dramatic trend in Lebanon these past 3 years. Many families are finding themselves forced to opt for it to flee their unbearable hardships in a country immersed in crises.
The newest of such cases occurred on Tuesday with 64 people trying to illegally leave the country by sea. The Lebanese Army stopped them on the beach between the areas of Qleiaat and Sheikh Znad in the North.
The 64 people were of Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian nationalities, including a pregnant woman who was bleeding and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The detainees were handed over to the pertinent authorities and the investigation has been launched.
These illegal emigrations from Lebanon, which are basically smuggling operations, have been highly dangerous, and even lethal. Back in April of this year, one of these attempts developed dramatically when the boat capsized off the coast of Tripoli in the North. 6 people died, including a baby.
