The Brazilian tennis player of Lebanese descent, Beatriz Haddad Maia, was announced as runner-up in the WTA National Bank Open 2022, held in Toronto, Canada.
After Romanian Simona Halep won the title and made Beatriz Haddad Maia finish as runner-up, the Lebanese-Brazilian player will enter the top 20 players in the world rankings for the first time in her career.
As stated by Annahar, Haddad Maia achieved remarkable results in this tournament, becoming one of the first Brazilian players to succeed in beating a world champion player.
The legendary Brazilian football player Pele congratulated the Brazilian player of Lebanese descent, expressing on his Instagram account a sense of pride to see someone from his country victorious in such a prestigious tournament.
He added that he will be rooting for her as she is “writing a beautiful story.”
