After taking the UAE National Award, the leading Lebanese contracting company BUTEC has been selected as the Regional MENA Winner in the Power Project of the Year category of this year’s 2022 MEED Projects Awards.
The company was awarded the Sharjah Waste to Energy Project, which is the first of a kind in the UAE aiming at converting waste into heat, used to produce steam to drive a turbine and generator block.
According to BUTEC, this project also contributes to fighting global warming that is causing long-term environmental hazards. It turns waste into an energy-producing fuel that frees up land, generates power, and minimizes carbon emissions.
Each of the MENA Winners competing for the “National Project of the year” were selected based on various factors, including technological innovation, engineering excellence, and commitment to sustainable practices.
