The 90th Academy Awards, also known as The Oscars, will take place next year on March 4th.
A movie called “The Insult,” which is directed by the renowned Lebanese director Ziad Doueiri will represent Lebanon in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category.
The screening of the movie at the Venice Film Festival was followed by a 5-minute standing ovation. In fact, Ziad Doueiri has directed and written the famous movie “West Beirut.”
The latter has won the Prix François Chalais of the Cannes Film Festival in 1998.
“The Insult” was screened during the El-Gouna Film Festival in Egypt. Before the screening, Ziad Doueiri received the “Best Arab Talent of the Year” Award for 2017 from Variety magazine.
According to sources, Ziad Doueiri received this award because of the huge success of this film. In fact, “The Insult” got screened at many prestigious film festivals such as Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and Telluride Film Festival.
Also, Kamel El Basha, who played one of the main characters in the movie, won the Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival.
The spokesman of Variety magazine said: “Some directors are courageous, and others are talented. However, Ziad Doueiri has both of these qualities.”
“The Insult” is now showing at movie theaters across Lebanon.
