Dirty Difficult Dangerous

The Lebanese film Dirty Difficult Dangerous won the Critic Choice Award’s Special Mention at the prestigious Filmfest Hamburg 2022.

The film festival’s jury described the Beirut-set film as “magically amalgamates the difficult into surprising lightness.”

Directed by Lebanese-French Wissam Charaf, the film was screened as the opening film of the Giornate Degli Autori’s selection at the Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Europa Cinemas Label 2022.

Played by Ziad Jallad and Clara Couture, Dirty Difficult Dangerous tells the story of a love affair between a Syrian refugee, Ahmed, and an Ethiopian domestic worker, Mehdia.

As the two lovers face many financial and health challenges, both take the opportunity to flee Beirut and start over somewhere else as Ahmed’s health starts to deteriorate.

Also starring Rifaat Taraba and Darina Al Jodi, the film is written by Wissam Charaf, Hala Dabaji, and Mariette Désert, and produced by Charlotte Vincent and Pierre Sarraf.
