Meet The Lebanese Civil Engineer Turned Worldwide Fashion Designer

It is never too late to change your career path and shift to monetize your passion and doing so successfully. Georges Hobeika is here to prove it.

Starting as a civil engineer and architect, he moved into fashion design, launching his haute-couture fashion house in 1995, at the age of 33, owning today 4 fashion lines, with various locations around the world. 

Born 1962 in the mountain village of Baskinta, along with seven siblings, George Hobeika grew up assisting his seamstress mother, Marie, in her boutique atelier and loving it.

While he made it his hobby, he went for an education in civil engineering and architectural design.

During the Lebanese Civil War, he sought Paris for safety and a better future for his family and himself. He did various internships with several Parisian fashion houses, among which none other than the legendary Chanel.

He came back to Lebanon in 1995 and opened his own fashion atelier in Beirut, supported by his mother who teamed up with him to launch his fashion label.

Six years later, Hobeika went back to Paris and this time to present his first fashion show at Hotel K, and since then to-date he has been presenting his collections twice a year at Paris Couture Fashion Week.

By 2010, solid in his established fame, he launched his Parisian showroom along with a production atelier that specializes in two of his fashion lines: Signature and GH by Georges Hobeika.

Two years later, Georges Hobeika would come to see his fame spreading exponentially across the continents when Miss USA Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012 wearing an exquisite gown of his designs for the final part of the competition.

An official guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisienne, Hobeika counts among his clients numerous celebrities and VIPs from Europe, North America, South America, and Asia, as well as royal families of the Arabian Gulf.

His fashion lines are Georges Hobeika Couture, Georges Hobeika Bridal, Georges Hobeika Signature, and GH by Georges Hobeika. That in addition to his décor line of couture furnishings and home accessories.

This Lebanese outstanding designer has partnered with big names, like Swarovski, Solstiss, Maison Lesage, Maison Legeron, and Jakob Schlaepfer, for his creation and production of his Couture line, which he heads from Beirut.

In addition to that, he has representation branches in Paris, Los Angeles, and Beijing.
