Despite attempts to prevent the diaspora from voting, Lebanese expats around the world have started registering online to vote in the upcoming 2022 parliamentary elections.
Registration is still open until November 20, 2021 (as of the time of writing).
Voters born on or before March 30th, 2001, can register:
- In person at the Lebanese Embassy of their country of residence or at the Lebanese general consulate in their city, or
- By filling a brief online form available at Diaspora Vote of the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants.
The form requires the eligible voter’s full name, phone number, and email address, after which a link will be emailed to them to log in and provide the required personal information.
During the registration, voters are asked to present:
1- an official I.D., be it a Lebanese passport or a Lebanese identity card, or an Ikhraj Qayd (Civil Status Bulletin), and
2- One I.D. issued by the country of residence, such as a Permanent Residence, Passport, Work Permit, Driver’s Licence, or a Lebanese Passport stamped with an immigration visa. Only one of these official documents is needed to prove that the voter is a Lebanese residing abroad.
Expats are eager to make a change in their home country. They are encouraging everybody to register, preferably before November 20th, taking into consideration the difference in time zones as registration will close at 11:59 PM Beirut time.
The electoral process abroad takes place at least 15 days before the election day in Lebanon, usually starting at 7 AM and ending at 10 PM.
The results will be then sent to the higher registration committee of Beirut after the electoral process is concluded in Lebanon and added to local results.
