Lebanese General Security Arrest Syrian Plotting A Bomb Attack

A young Syrian man was arrested overnight by the General Security agents in Choueifat area. He is suspected of plotting to carry out an act of terror by the method of a bomb attack. Al-Akhbar newspaper reported:

The detainee was working as a delivery boy for one of the restaurants and he was plotting to prepare an explosive device

This comes just days after the Lebanese Army and General Security arrested a Lebanese man who confessed to monitoring the movements and addresses of political figures – including Prime Minister Saad Hariri. He admitted to working with a Palestinian operative to plot a suicide attack in the center of Beirut. Tourist sites and key businesses in downtown were also potential targets, alongside the convoys of politicians. Thanks to the prompt and preemptive response of the Lebanese Army and general security, the last attack successfully carried out in Lebanon was in November 2015. Lebanon’s security services claim to have prevented several attacks in recent months. Among them, mass attacks over the Christmas season. Source: Al-Akhbar
