Two Lebanese Inventors Just Won Gold Medals At iCAN 2021

Lebanese inventors Dr. Wael Khalil and Dr. Mazen Abdallah presented their inventions at the 6th edition of the International Innovation Competition for Invention in Canada, iCAN 2021, and they have each earned a gold medal for their creations.

iCAN is the premier event of Canada for worldwide inventors. This year, iCAN recorded the highest participation ever, with over 650 inventions from more than 70 countries.

The event, which was conducted virtually, gathered inventors, innovators, students, professors, researchers, and scientists sharing experiences in interactive sessions.

Dr. Wael Khalil earned a gold medal for his discovery relating to the treatment of osteoarthritis in the field of dentistry.

Osteoarthritis is a new interpretation of the most common and painful complications associated with tooth dislocation, and Dr. Khalil discovered various unknown elements behind that condition and how to quickly and effectively treat it.

He presented his invention, titled Customized Porous Supracrestal Implant and Material and Methods Forming Them, with new facts in terms of mechanism, causality, and treatment.

As for Dr. Mazen Abdallah, he earned his gold medal for his invention of a Vehicle Safe System, which reduces the effects of traffic accidents and protects drivers and passengers.

The system consists of two main protective mechanisms:

  • External airbags installed on the outer parts of the vehicles, operating according to the signal of sensors and digital image processing system associated with controllers,
  • A flexible collar mounted on the headrest to support the neck while driving for a long time, which prevents the body from impacting in the event of a serious accident.
