The video revealed that the crown is named The Mouawad Miss Universe Power of Unity Crown and that the crown was designed on the Universal themes of nature, strength, beauty, femininity, and unity, as inspiration.
The crown is crafted in 18-karat gold, handset with more than 1770 diamonds, including a magnificent centerpiece shield-cut golden canary diamond weighing 62.83-carats.
According to Mouawad Jewelry, “The design was inspired by vine leaves to depict the interconnectedness of communities from around the world. When communities unite with a common vision of advancing humanity, we can empower one another as a force for good. We are all part of humanity in one planet – together we are stronger.”
The Mouawad Miss Universe Power of Unity Crown will replace the current Mikimoto Crown, designed by Japanese artisan Tomohiro Yamaji, which had been worn from 2002 to 2007, and again from 2017 up to the current 2018 pageant winner, Miss Catriona Gray from the Philippines.
This New Mouawad crown will be officially worn on the 8th of December at the 68th annual Miss Universe competition in 2019, where Miss Catriona Gray will crown her eventual successor.
“The crown worn by each titleholder is one of the most recognizable symbols of the commitment and ambition it takes to be Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA,” said Paula M. Shugart, President of The Miss Universe Organization.
Speaking about their partnership with Mouawad jewelry, she added: “With Mouawad as our new partner, we’ll be creating crowns that celebrate the diverse community of women from around the globe who have and will continue to participate in our programs each year.”
From his side, and earlier in September, Mouawad co-guardian Fred Mouawad commented on the new partnership:”With Mouawad’s strong heritage of designing jewelry for royalty, and our reputation for ‘crafting the extraordinary’, we are delighted to bring our savoir-faire to these internationally renowned events, and to craft exceptional, one-of-a-kind pieces befitting modern-day royalty.”
This new partnership will see the glamorous winners of the Miss Universe, Miss U.S.A, and Miss Teen U.S.A pageants each adorned with a newly designed crown crafted by the Lebanese Mouawad’s jewelry.
