UNESCO has selected the director of the International Center for Human Sciences (CISH) in Byblos, Dr. Darina Saliba Abi Chedid, to be among the jury of an upcoming contest held by the organization.

The jury will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating the research submitted by participants in the Silk Roads Youth Research Grant, which includes various research topics in different fields, in order to choose the best among them.

Postgraduate researchers under the age of 35 can participate in the contest, and various prizes will be awarded to distinguished participants, including 12 research grants of $10,000.

Commenting on her selection for the jury, Dr. Abi Chedid told the National News Agency that, with this gesture, “Lebanon proves once again its distinctive cultural presence in these difficult circumstances,” and she pointed out the importance of the Lebanese woman’s proven role in cultural leadership.

“It is not a coincidence that the city of crafts progresses in international conferences and seminars,” she noted, referring to the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos.

“For, as Lebanon and Beirut had tours in the world of science and culture, history’s oldest city is the pioneer and maker of culture by spreading crafts,” she concluded.

Dr. Abi Chedid has been teaching various courses in Political Science, International Relations, International Law, Human Rights, and Ethics at several universities in Lebanon and abroad, including the Lebanese American University, in Lebanon, and Université Paris Sud XI, in France.

In addition to heading the CISH, she is a consultant in Human Rights and Arbitration at the Cairo Regional Center for International Commercial Arbitration, an Egypt-based NGO.

She has also given workshops and been involved in various training and academic activities with the United Nations World Youth Alliance Program and the International Criminal Court.

Dr. Abi Chedid has additionally authored and co-authored multiple books, publications, and online contributions in the fields of human and social sciences.
