The “Lebanese Oil & Gas Initiative” stressed the necessity of disclosing all the terms of the final maritime border agreement with Israel as a fundamental right of the Lebanese citizens to accountability and transparency.

As well as to ensure that this agreement will have positive repercussions on the general situation in Lebanon and will not be subject to any prejudice.

In a statement, the initiative demanded not to exploit this historic achievement, which began its path many years ago, for any political ends, and to complete the process of demarcating the Lebanese borders with Syria and Cyprus.

It called on to “work annually to make the sector a success and revitalize it, and to emphasize maintaining transparency through the involvement of civil society.”

The initiative also called on the Lebanese government and the concerned ministry to complete the path of joining the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, especially after civil society has completed electing its representatives to the stakeholder council as an essential entry point to transparency.
