Lebanese Parliament Just Failed To Elect A President

The Lebanese parliament failed to elect a president following a 7-month vacuum.

On June 14th, 2023, a new session took place to proceed with the presidential elections. The assembly voted, however, members walked out before the end of the process.

The interruptive move forced the cancellation of the voting scoring another failure for the parliament to elect a president.

Here are the results of the canceled votes:

Sleiman Franjieh: 51
Ziad Baroud: 6
‘New Lebanon’: 8
General Joseph Aoun: 1
Blank: 1
Disqualified: 1

Unaccounted for: 1
