Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated on Tuesday that Lebanon is one of the many countries that have been a victim of terrorist attacks throughout many different sectors and regions.

“But they were resisted firmly by the army and security forces,” he added.

In his speech during a symposium on “Coordination Mechanisms in Combating Terrorism,” Mikati ascertained that Lebanon’s Security Forces were able to identify and thwart numerous terrorist operations as well as arrest the perpetrators.

The symposium was organized by the Lebanese government in collaboration with the “Advanced Counter Terrorism Project for Lebanon Security,” which is supported by the European Union.

“The world has been living for decades with a collective threat represented by terrorism that strikes everywhere,” said Mikati.

He stressed that combatting terrorism “is not only the responsibility of a specific security or intelligence apparatus, but rather requires collective cooperation, unification of expertise and information, and intensive coordination.”
