Lebanese Protesters Drove A Former MP Out Of A Bar In Beirut

Lebanese revolutionaries are not holding back when it comes to publicly shaming politicians. We’ve seen it happen many times before, and it continues to happen.

This campaign that has started with the revolution is targeting Lebanese political figures when in public.

After MP Assouad on Tuesday night in Antelias, the most recent is former Minister of Economy and Trade Raed Khoury who ‘served’ from 2016 to 2019.

This ex-Minister was spotted by the revolutionaries in a bar in Beirut with Lebanese comedian Hicham Haddad, who’s currently presenting the famous TV program Lahon w Bass.

The confrontation between the revolutionaries and Raed Khoury went on for a while. As usual, the protesters faced the politician with Lebanon’s economic deterioration, asked him to leave the bar, and chanted for the revolution.

The former Minister refused to leave. He remained seated, sipping on his drink, all while defending himself against the protesters’ accusations.

He said that he worked hard during his time in the Lebanese government and was committed to only doing his job.

He was heard saying “I worked hard, I worked from the sweat of my front,” and also retorting, “What money? I am the poorest one!”

Aside from having been a Minister, Khoury co-founded Cedrus Invest Bank SAL and Cedrus Bank.

The revolutionaries responded in unison: “Raed Khoury is a thief!” and they refused to leave until he did. They even escorted him out.

An Instagram user who goes by the name beyxdaily posted a video of the incident with the caption, “The indignation of the people is big… Your social evenings, you the corrupt [officials], you won’t be enjoying them like before… The people have awakened.”

Lebanese people refuse to suffer and struggle while those they deem corrupt or responsible for this mess go on with their lives comfortably, enjoying their outings.

This campaign Kellon Yaane Kellon targeting them all doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon.
