The Lebanese elections are always a period of excitement and hope for the future of the country as a whole. It is also an intense period of politics and rivalries, some of which could turn violent in a country where democracy is not well understood by some political partisans.
This year, Lebanon is witnessing new faces, seeking to overturn the traditional long-anchored officials.
The big surprise (so far) is the famous Lebanese TikToker Yassin Fawaz, who goes by “King Rolodex”, with a social following in the millions.
Yassin is regularly showing himself giving out cash to people in his Tiktok videos raising criticism of how it’s done in a humiliating manner. He’s seen driving supercars like a $300,000 Lamborghini Urus as well as having a group of foreign models with him.
The origins of his funds are unknown.
A couple of months ago, This Is Lebanon, an NGO helping domestic workers in Lebanon against abuse, ran a feature whereby his house cleaner, Leonila Barcelon Armamento, alleged Yassin was violent and physically abusive against her. She accused Yassin of also beating his then-girlfriend, who ran away from the house at 5 in the morning. The full report can be read here.
