On Saturday, the Lebanese revolution will record 1 year since its onset on October 17th, 2019. To mark the prominent day and affirm the continuation of the cause, Lebanese across the country and abroad are preparing to organize demonstrations and other events.
Here is everything planned for the revolution’s anniversary this weekend.
#1 The central demonstration
At 3 PM, Saturday, a major demonstration will be held in Martyrs’ Square to mark the 1st anniversary of the October 17 revolution.
There will be a march that starts at the square and ends in Gemmayze, passing through the following locations in Beirut:
- The headquarters of the Association of Banks in Lebanon.
- Ring Bridge.
- The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities.
- The Banque du Liban (the central bank).
- The parliament building.
- Port of Beirut.
#2 AUB march
AUB students are organizing a march that will start in front of the university’s main gate at 2:30 PM on Saturday.
#3 From London to Lebanon
The Lebanese community in the UK will mark the first October 17th anniversary by holding demonstrations in the following two locations in London:
- Tower Bridge: From 3 PM until 5 PM.
- Speakers’ Corner, Hyde Park: From 5 PM until 7 PM.
#4 From Paris to Lebanon
The Lebanese community in Paris, France, is organizing a demonstration on Saturday at 4:45 PM, in Place de la Bastille. There will be a march to Place de la République.
#5 Berlin demonstration
At 2 PM, Saturday, Lebanese expatriates in Germany will hold a demonstration to mark the revolution’s anniversary.
The event will take place in front of Brandenburg Gate, Berlin.
#6 New York solidarity stand
The Lebanese community in New York will hold a solidarity stand on Saturday, 4 PM EST, at Union Square Park.
#7 Zürich march
At Helvetiaplatz, the state park of Zürich, Switzerland, the Lebanese will mark the October 17 uprising’s anniversary by holding a march on Saturday that starts at 5 PM and ends at 7 PM.
#8 Genève march
Another march will take place on the same day in Switzerland, in Place des Nations, Genève. It will start at 2 PM and continue until 4 PM.
Sunday:
#9 Discussion with the independent winners of the LAU elections
The revolution tent in Baakleen, Mount Lebanon, will hold a special event on Sunday, October 18th.
The event will include a review of the revolution’s timeline and progress with pictures and videos, in addition to a discussion circle with the independent LAU students who recently won the university’s elections.
#10 Nabatiyeh event
On Sunday, people from Nabatiyeh will depart to Bisri at 10 AM, in coordination with the rest of the revolution’s movements in Lebanon, to affirm their position in rejecting the Bisri dam project.
