Lebanese athletes broke several national records during a recent championship in Turkey, the National News Agency reported.
Representing three Lebanese clubs, five Lebanese runners participated in the three-day championship that was held in the indoor sporting arena, Ataköy Athletics Arena, in the city of Istanbul.
The Turkish Indoor Athletics Championships is an annual indoor track and field competition organized by the Turkish Athletic Federation. It is Turkey‘s national championship for the sport.
The Lebanese runners set several new records during the competition.
Aziza Sbeity set two of those: a national record in the 200-meter race (24.58 seconds), and another in the same race (24.43 seconds) after qualifying for the finals. Sbeity also ranked first in the championship’s overall standings.
On his part, Peter Khoury set a record in the 1,500-meter race (3:55.65 minutes), breaking it with a new record by the end of the competition.
Three additional national records were set on the third day of the championship:
- Hea Kobrosly, U-20, in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:02.79 minutes.
- Gretta Taslakian in the 400-meter race with a time of 56.77 seconds.
- Peter Khoury in the 1500-meter race with a time of 3:53.60 minutes.
