The Ministry of Tourism has made adjustments to its previously-announced lockdown measures, a day before Lebanon’s 8th general mobilization extension goes into effect.

On Wednesday, the Tourism Ministry announced the following modifications:

  • Pâtisseries and sweets shops may open their doors on the upcoming holidays from 6 AM to 8 PM during the period of the lockdown. However, they must only offer takeaway and/or delivery services without allowing customers to stay inside.
  • Hookah delivery services to homes in all Lebanese regions are prohibited at all times.
  • Restaurants and fast-food outlets may provide takeaway or home delivery services daily from 6 AM to 8 PM during the lockdown, provided customers are not allowed to stay indoors.

Prior to this, the Ministry ordered in a Tuesday, July 28th circular, the total closure of most tourism and leisure establishments and businesses in addition to restaurants, cafes, and pastry shops, in accordance with the new lockdown.

It allowed these establishments to operate with a 50% capacity on regular days, including the 4th and 5th of August, which the government excluded from the lockdown.

In contrast, pubs, clubs, and similar venues will remain completely closed from July 28th until August 10th, and so will grottos and public establishments affiliated with the Tourism Ministry.

The same goes for swimming pools, “with the exception of chalets pre-rented rooms.”

Hotels, on the other hand, will continue to operate normally while adhering to the required preventive measures, provided that their restaurants operate only to serve guests.

The latter also applies to marine tourism institutions.

Finally, wedding halls and all venues will be completely closed, and all forms of parties and concerts will be suspended throughout the period of the lockdown.
