Jeddah’s second Red Sea International Film Festival kicked off on Thursday, where Lebanese journalist and TV presenter Raya Abirached hosted the opening of the ten-day festival.

A short film introducing this year’s theme, “Film Is Everything,” was shown at the opening ceremony as dancers performed.

Abirached paid homage to renowned Indian actor and producer Shah Rukh Khan, legendary British director Guy Ritchie, and Arab cinema icon Yousra who received the Gold Yusr Honorary Award for their contributions to cinema.

Abirached is well-known for her show Scoop with Raya, where she delves into everything new in film and conducts interviews with prominent Hollywood figures, as well as co-hosting Arabs Got Talent.

She was also named the UNHCR’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Goodwill Ambassador in April 2021.
