3 Lebanese Universities Just Ranked Among The Most Sustainable Worldwide

The University of Indonesia’s GreenMetric World University Rankings, which ranks universities based on their environmental sustainability and green campus initiatives, has released its annual list for 2022.

The ranking is based on a multi-criteria analysis covering six categories: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation, and research and education.

This year’s ranking also included evaluations based on numerical data about campus operations, innovative programs, cultural activities and events, health and safety infrastructure, and sustainable community service initiatives and startups.

American University of Beirut

The American University of Beirut (AUB) ranked first in Lebanon and 133rd in the world – a big jump from its first global ranking of 569 back in 2018. AUB moved up 29 spots from 2021, when it was ranked 162nd out of 956 institutions.

AUB scored a total of 7975. It got 1250 for setting and infrastructure, 1550 for energy and climate change, 1350 for waste, 750 for water, 1450 for transportation, and 1625 for education and research.

Holy Spirit University of Kaslik

Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) came in second in Lebanon and 236th in the world, with a total score of 7390. It scored 880 for setting and infrastructure, 1650 for energy and climate change, 1500 for waste, 560 for water, 1225 for transportation, and 1575 for education and research.

Islamic University of Lebanon

The Islamic University of Lebanon (IUL) ranked third in Lebanon and 656th in the world, with a total score of 5145. It scored 1025 for setting and infrastructure, 1250 for energy and climate change, 600 for waste, 310 for water, 985 for transportation, and 975 for education and research.
