The Executive Board of the Association of Full-time Professors at the Lebanese University held a meeting headed by Dr. Amer Halawani and confirmed the continuation of the open strike and the commitment to a complete cessation of all academic work.
In a statement following the meeting, the executive board stressed that professors “are not employees with a specific schedule, as they do not carry out their academic and research work only within their schedule, but at all times inside and outside university campuses.”
It added that the ongoing crisis contributes to increasing the terrible leakage of the university’s academic and administrative staff, especially since the professors are still unable to educate their children, and their health and social security have fallen due to the deliberate failure to support it and its inequality with other official guarantors.
It concluded by emphasizing the continuation of the open strike, which was approved by the General Assembly of Professors, and called on them to abide by the suspension of all academic work.
A meeting of the General Assembly will be held in the Great Conference Hall at the Martyr Prime Minister Rafic Hariri Complex in Hadath, on Saturday, October 1, at 9:00 am with a quorum, or at 10:00 am with those who attended, in order to discuss the developments.
The executive board also called on the Minister of Education, “who is entrusted with the interests of the university and the professors”, to assume his responsibility not to allow the privacy of the university professors to be compromised in all decrees issued by the cabinet and laws issued by the parliament.
