Lebanese University Student Created A Wound Healing Ointment From Pomegranate Peels

Lebanese University (LU) student in molecular biology Ghosoun Al-Bahri has registered a new patent at Lebanon’s Ministry of Economy & Trade for a wound healing ointment made from pomegranate peels.

Under the title of “Robust natural pomegranate peels-based ointment for cutaneous wounds treatment,” Al-Bahri registered the patent with the Ministry’s Intellectual Property Protection Department.

This patent allows her to manufacture a natural topical ointment treatment from pomegranate peel extracts, which effectiveness was present in the treatment of wounds in rabbits.

Pomegranate has been used since ancient times to treat a variety of diseases. The fruit is also scientifically proven to contain biologically active molecules that make it a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory alternative.

It is worth mentioning that the patent is part of the research conducted by Lebanese Ghosoun Al-Bahri to obtain a master’s degree in the specialization of molecular biology.
