Lebanon women’s team won first place in a recent alpine skiing competition held in Montenegro.
The Small Evolving Ski (SES) Nations Cup, held over the course of 4 days (Jan. 13-16) in Kolasin, Montenegro, involved athletes from 10 participating countries, which included Montenegro, Serbia, and Cyprus.
Manon Ouaiss and Carlie Maria Iskandar represented the Lebanese Ski Federation in the women’s races, and they brought home 3 gold and 3 bronze medals, earning the first (Ouaiss) and third (Iskandar) spots in the competition.
Lebanon’s participation in the SES competition, which included slalom and giant slalom races, comes with the approach of the skiing season in Lebanon, and in preparation for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, which will take place in China in 2022.
Lebanon has participated in the majority of the Winter Olympic Games held over the past 7 decades. Since 1948, the country has only missed the 1994 and 1998 Winter Games.
In January 2017, Lebanon hosted and participated in the SES Nations Championship, which included races in the senior and youth category for men and women, at the Cedars Ski Resort on the slopes of Gebran Khalil Gebran in Arz.
