Lebanon recorded 2,063 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Monday, the Health Ministry said in its daily report on the epidemic.
Between Sunday and Monday, 61 COVID-19-related fatalities and 5,356 full recoveries were recorded in Lebanon.
Taking that into consideration, active cases now stand at 106,424 of the 321,980 total infections confirmed in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to the report, 2,442 of the total cases are among medical workers, of which 8 were confirmed between Sunday and Monday.
The new cases recorded in the same period emerged from 8,140 PCR tests administered in the past 24 hours, including 6,220 local tests and 1,920 at the airport. In total, Lebanon has registered 2,703,621 tests since February 2020.
As of Monday, 2,254 COVID-19 patients occupy hospital beds across the country. Also, there are currently 906 critical cases in intensive care units, and 311 on mechanical ventilation, according to the report.
Monday marks the beginning of the first stage of gradual reopening that the Lebanese authorities announced on the weekend.
As the stage progresses, the Health Ministry will monitor and assess the epidemiological situation in order in preparation for the second stage, which will follow 2 weeks later.
On Sunday, the Ministry recorded 2,081 COVID-19 cases and 54 fatalities.
