Lebanon recorded 3,136 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Thursday, the Health Ministry said in its daily report on the epidemic.
The report revealed that 63 COVID-19 patients in Lebanon had passed away in the past 24 hours, while 5,504 others underwent full recovery.
In total, 3,803 virus-related fatalities and 217,578 recoveries have been recorded in the country since the virus was first detected.
This means that Lebanon currently has 106,642 active cases of the total 328,023 confirmed cases. These include 2,456 medical workers, of whom 7 tested positive between Wednesday and Thursday.
In the same period, 20,706 PCR tests were administered across the country, including 18,611 local tests and 2,095 others at the airport, raising the cumulative number of PCR tests in Lebanon to 2,737,895.
As of Thursday, 2,268 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment in hospital beds, while 927 are in critical condition in intensive care units, and 294 are on mechanical ventilation.
Lebanon is now preparing to start vaccination, as it expects to receive its first shipment of vaccine doses on Saturday.
In that framework, the authorities are launching a dedicated hotline for citizens to register to receive the vaccine, as an alternative to the online registration platform.
In the meantime, a local factory is set to start negotiations with a vaccine-manufacturing country in order to begin manufacturing vaccines in Lebanon.
On Wednesday, the Health Ministry confirmed 3,157 COVID-19 cases and 66 fatalities.
