Lebanon recorded 3,588 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Friday, the Health Ministry’s daily report on the outbreak indicated.
Since the pandemic reached it in February, Lebanon has registered a total of 434,322 infections, of which 88,259 are active cases at the time of writing.
The total cases include 2,633 healthcare workers, of whom one tested positive for COVID-19 between Thursday and Friday, according to the report.
In the same period, 55 patients passed away while 2,424 underwent recovery. This raises the cumulative number of virus-related fatalities to 5,664 and that of full recoveries to 340,399.
The Health Ministry’s data shows that in the past 24 hours, 21,062 tests to detect COVID-19 were administered in Lebanon.
These include 16,396 PCR tests administered locally, 3,441 PCR tests administered at Beirut Airport, and 1,225 antigen tests.
As of the time of writing, 2,364 patients occupy hospital beds across the country, 949 are critical cases that occupy intensive care unit beds, and 303 are on mechanical ventilation.
The first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 104,517 people in Lebanon so far, including 2,256 who received it in the past 24 hours.
In the same period, 4,864 people received the second vaccine dose, raising the total number of individuals who have completed the vaccination process in Lebanon to 36,967.
On Thursday, the Health Ministry recorded 3,757 COVID-19 cases and 73 fatalities.
