Lebanon recorded 3,856 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Wednesday, the Health Ministry’s daily report on the outbreak indicated.

The newly-confirmed cases raise the total number of infections recorded in Lebanon since the beginning of the pandemic to 448,721, of which 92,124 are active cases at the time of writing.

The total infections include 2,644 healthcare workers, of whom 2 tested positive for COVID-19 between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Since the first case of the virus was detected in Lebanon in February 2020, the country has registered a total of 5,903 virus-related fatalities and 350,694 full recoveries.

In the past 24 hours, 53 patients died due to COVID-19 while 1,471 others underwent full recovery.

In the same period, 22,765 tests were administered to detect COVID-19. These included 18,892 PCR tests administered locally and 2,106 others administered at Beirut Airport, not to mention 1,767 antigen tests, according to the report.

Critical COVID-19 cases that occupy intensive care unit beds currently stand at 991. In total, 2,415 patients are undergoing treatment in hospital beds across Lebanon, and 170 are on mechanical ventilation.

So far, 115,927 people in Lebanon have received their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, whereas 54,661 have received the second one.

The Health Ministry’s data indicates that the first dose was administered to 4,371 individuals in the past 24 hours while the second dose was given to 5,471 others in the same period.

On Tuesday, the Ministry confirmed 3,851 COVID-19 infections and 42 deaths.
