The ministry of public health announced a third shot of the coronavirus vaccine. It will be offered to everyone aged 60+ and those who have already received the second dose over at least 6 months.

This decision could have been influenced by the recent spike in the number of Covid-19 cases. 959 new cases were registered on Saturday.

The health department responsible for the distribution of vaccines will later announce other target groups who will also be offered the third dose.

There is no need to register again for the third dose as it will be offered automatically.

The third dose will work on boosting immunity amongst the elderly and some other target groups against COVID-19 and its variants.

In collaboration with the Lebanese Vaccine Executive Committee and UNICEF Lebanon, the ministry of public health will work on the distribution of the third dose.

This comes after Dr. Firass Abiad, Minister of Public Health, announced that Lebanon is witnessing an increase in coronavirus cases.

On his Twitter, Dr. Abiad said: “Cases may have risen as winter has approached, schools have started, and the percentage of vaccination amongst younger aged groups has declined.”
