Bassam Mawlawi, Lebanon’s Minister of Interior and Municipalities, has formally requested the Internal Security Forces to initiate a campaign against Syrian individuals driving motorcycles without Lebanese residency.
This move comes in response to a noticeable uptick in motorcycle activity by Syrians, some of whom are suspected of engaging in criminal activities such as robbery and drug dealing.
Additionally, Mawlawi has directed Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud to instruct the Municipal Guard to ramp up security patrols.
The aim is to stop the rising issue of begging by non-Lebanese children at traffic lights throughout Beirut.
