Among 25 documentaries and 5 podcasts competing in 6 categories, the documentary “Lebanon, Between Two Evils” was shortlisted at Italy’s Festival Internazionale di Giornalismo Investigativo (DIG) Awards.
“Lebanon, Between Two Evils” highlights the increase of violence in Lebanon as the result of poverty, corruption, and the war in Syria, which built a perfect environment for criminal gangs.
This investigative documentary is part of the TRT World’s “Off the Grid” series. It meets and talks with the people who are part of those gangs and explores how Lebanon, once dubbed as Switzerland of the Middle East, now lacks the necessities for survival.
“But one commodity is widely available: weapons. We explore how the rise of poverty has led to a surge in violence in a country where life is becoming harder by the day,” TRT World said about the documentary.
This thought-provoking investigative documentary also received a finalist certificate in the 2022 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards – Documentary category – for National Affairs and Social Issues.
