In response to the increasing violations of its sovereignty by Israel, Lebanon has filed a complaint to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

On Tuesday, caretaker Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe lodged a complaint to the UNSC and to the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, through the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the UN, Dr. Amal Mudallali.

The objection cites “the Israeli attacks on Lebanese sovereignty through the continuous and serious air violations ongoing for a few days, which are considered a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” the National News Agency reported.

It also urges the UNSC to condemn Israel for these attacks, and “to put an end to them immediately in order to preserve stability, security, peace in the region.”

The move comes at the request of President Michel Aoun, who asked Wehbe to file “an urgent letter to the Security Council… demanding a condemnation of Israeli aggressions and violations of Lebanese sovereignty and Resolution 1701.”

Israel has been repeatedly violating Resolution 1701, in an increased capacity over the past week, through various means, most commonly by flying warplanes over different Lebanese areas, including the capital Beirut, often at low altitudes.

The Lebanese Army has also recorded multiple violations of Lebanon’s territorial waters by the Israeli military this month.
