The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denounced Israel for using the airspace of Lebanon to attack Syria.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Foreign Ministry expressed “its condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the air attack carried out by the Israeli enemy on the vicinity of the Syrian capital Damascus last Wednesday-Thursday night.”

“As it denounces any attack on the sovereignty of brotherly Syria, [the Ministry] rejects the use of the Lebanese airspace to target it and expresses its full solidarity with it in the face of the repeated attacks of the Israeli enemy,” the statement added.

The Ministry then called on the international community to intervene to “stop the repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanese sovereignty, which constitute a clear violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and international legal resolutions.”

At around 1 AM on Thursday, Israeli warplanes carried out attacks on several targets around Damascus from within the Lebanese airspace.

After Syrian air defenses fired back, a surface-to-air missile ended up crashing in Lebanon.

The attack on Syria came two days after Israeli soldiers opened fire at shepherds in southern Lebanon, which happened within days of several instances of violations of Lebanese sovereignty by the Israeli military.
